Theodor Farner, born in Pforzheim, Germany, between 1859 and 1919, was raised within a sizable household led by his father, Theodor Farner Sr., who ran a ring manufacturing enterprise. As the sole male heir among seven siblings, he took over the family trade following his father’s passing in 1883. His training occurred at the Pforzheim Kunstgewerbeschule, where he qualified as both an engraver and a jewelry designer. Around the dawn of the twentieth century, he secured numerous patents for his factory’s designs. The brand achieved global renown when Max Joseph Gradl’s creations were showcased at the 1900 Paris World’s Fair, earning a silver medal.

The firm’s success stemmed largely from its Art Nouveau offerings, known in Germany as Jugendstil. Their silver pieces adorned with semi-precious stones were trendy and reasonably priced.

Following Theodor Farner’s demise in 1919, the company persisted under his name, eventually becoming a leading producer of Art Deco accessories through the work of designers like Maria Obrich, Patrice Huber, and Ludwig Knupper.
