New York jewelry company Belais

Established by David Belais in the nineteenth century, the Belais Jewelry Company operated out of New York. It pioneered a gold, zinc, and nickel alloy that served as a platinum substitute. Through vigorous marketing efforts, the firm gained renown for its luxury wedding bands, engagement rings, and other adornments. In 1917, it secured a patent for eighteen-karat white gold. The brand crafted Art Deco pieces featuring diamond-studded rings, filigree brooches, and other gems, fashioned from both eighteen- and fourteen-karat gold. Each item bore the inscription “Belais 18K.”
