Established in 1864, the U.S. firm Bates & Bacon initially manufactured gold-plated watch cases before expanding into bracelets, watch chains, and other adornments. From 1880 onward, the brand offered a two-decade warranty on its plating; after patenting the technique, this assurance was extended to a century. Today, a century and a half later, Bates & Bacon pieces retain their lustrous, fresh-gold appearance.
